In a steampunk world of talking animals set on islands floating in the sky, Reynardo, a retired fox corsair, is drawn back into action when his hometown is destroyed by the raven armies of the tyrannical Emperor Isengrim III, who seeks lost artifacts and forbidden magic to summon the banished elder gods. Escaping aboard his airship with a mysterious book, Reynardo joins the Rebellion against the mad Emperor. The book proves to be magical, letting him glimpse where his choices might lead, so that when a path ends in disaster he can turn back and try another, piecing together the truths he needs to reach a better ending.
