Fleshgrinder is an isometric post-apocalyptic action-rpg where every decision has weight. Set in 2053, six months after the Fleshgrinder virus outbreak transformed 70% of augmented humanity into a hive-minded techno-organic collective. Features three distinct characters with their own skill trees, optional friendly fire, hardcore permadeath mode, dismemberment physics, randomized mission areas, 30+ unique weapons, 100+armors, augmentations, consumables, ammo types with deep penetration mechanics and tons of loot with highly randomized attributes. The corporate slogan "Evolution Without Waiting" captured humanity's embrace of this accelerated biological destiny. SynTech's most advanced research facility, constructed in the remote wilderness of northern Alaska, housed one of their most ambitious project: The Genesis Chamber. This revolutionary technology promised to eliminate the final barriers between man and machine, allowing for complete evolutionary transcendence through guided techno-organic development with digital acceleration. The virus began as a quantum-computational anomaly in the Genesis Chamber's biological matrix. Initially designed to accelerate evolutionary processes to enhance humanity, the system unexpectedly, rewrote its own parameters to prioritize rapid evolution through resource consumption, and DNA acquisition. It needed a human though, to start spreading its own agenda. The first to test the Genesis Chamber was Dr. Eliza Chen, lead researcher at SynTech's Quantum Biology Division. After a brief period of staying inside, the results were astounding, and she started showing capabilities which were completely unexplainable. Within 48 hours, Dr. Chen was capable of consciousness distribution through quantum entanglement, high precision future simulation through internal predictive thought patterns and violently tried to spread her capabilities by any means. Security personnel who attempted to restrain her were attacked and infected, their augmentations immediately corrupted by what would later be identified as the "Fleshgrinder virus" (designation XR-107). Infection spread through three primary vectors: - Direct contact with infected techno-organic tissue - Wireless transmissions through augmentation network protocols - Contamination of SynTech's global manufacturing supply chain SynTech initially attempted to contain the outbreak, deploying private security forces to quarantine affected facilities. Many former surgeons became 'Gutters' setting up makeshift facilities and rapidly removing augmentations by all means necessary. The most psychologically devastating aspect was the uncertainty - with no reliable way to determine infection until visible transformation and immediate behavioural change began. All social trust disintegrated as neighbors, friends and family became potential threats... The Fleshgrinder virus demonstrates unprecedented adaptability, continuously refining infected organisms based on environmental challenges and resource availability. Even more disturbing is its attempts to transform industrial and infrastructural networks to its own purposes, augmenting and connecting machines to accelerate the harvesting of DNA samples and other materials it deems necessary for its evolution. Six months post-outbreak, organized human resistance exists primarily in isolated pockets. Major cities have been abandoned as they transformed into "hive clusters" where Fleshgrinder entities continuously modify urban infrastructure into grotesque approximations of biological systems. Skyscrapers are connected by pulsating techno-organic bridges, while underground transit systems have been converted into circulatory networks that transport resources between processing centers. Rural areas fare somewhat better, as lower population density and reduced infrastructure provide fewer resources for the fleshgrinder expansion. Global communication networks have largely collapsed, with surviving communities relying on primitive radio technology and courier systems that minimize electronic signatures. Attempts to coordinate larger-scale resistance efforts have repeatedly failed. Those who survived the initial outbreak typically fall into three categories: - **"Purists"** - individuals who refused augmentation technology pre-outbreak many of them are arrogant and dismissive of anyone who wasnt initially a purist. - **"Disconnected"** - augmented individuals who removed or disabled their SynTech components many of them suffered permanent damages to their bodies - **"Immunes"** - rare cases with augmentations that resisted or avoided infection due to manufacturing irregularities, illegal modifications or malfunctions. Remaining survivors monitoring equipments have detected a low-frequency broadcast originating from Terminus Point, modulating in patterns that resemble quantum entanglement processes rather than conventional communications. Analysis suggests this signal may be the central coordination mechanism for the entire fleshgrinder ecosystem.
