Tarosuke, a boy who is always misbehaving with the villagers, is punished by God by being carried to the entrance of hell while he sleeps, where he is to go through hell while still alive to be judged by Enma. In order to shape his destiny, Tarosuke parades through the hell world with the "ghost psychokinesis" given to him by the gods.

During boss battles, Tarosuke kneels at a shrine to Buddha and prays, summoning "Monmotaro" (not to be confused with "Momotarou"), a spirit which floats in the air and drops energy balls on the boss and any lackeys he has. Once the boss is defeated, Tarosuke goes to the next stage.
