Everything about Persona 4: story and gameplay

A structured look at the narrative, game feel, and traits that define this game.

Story & context

A city teenager arrives in the sleepy rural town of Inaba to live with relatives for a year while his parents work abroad. His quiet new life is upended when a string of bizarre, unexplained murders grips the town, the victims found hanging in impossible ways amid a creeping fog. A local rumor claims that gazing into a switched-off television on a rainy midnight reveals a hidden face, and when the protagonist and his new schoolmates investigate, they are pulled into a strange, fog-shrouded realm that exists inside the TV. There they meet a curious creature and awaken to the power of Persona, manifestations of their inner selves. Realizing the murders are tied to this eerie other world, the friends form an Investigation Team, balancing everyday school life, friendships, and part-time jobs with dangerous journeys into the TV World as they race to uncover the truth behind the killings.
